چکیده

By 2050, the rice production needs to be increased by at least 50% in order meet growing food demands of global population. Among various yield limiting factors, high temperature is fast becoming a major threat sustain yields due its frequency occurrence and severity stress events. The development heat-resilient cultivars has been slow lack relevant donors for heat tolerance traits limited information regarding genetic basis these component traits. early morning flowering (EMF) trait, contributing escape promoting flowering/anthesis during cooler hours demonstrated offer protection against high-temperature-induced failure pollination fertilization. In this study, evaluation CO 51, IR64 IR64-qEMF3 (NIL harboring QTL EMF revealed that qEMF3 promoted (1½ 2 h earlier than IR64) thereby reduced sterility about 8.15%. Attempts through marker-assisted backcross breeding led advanced progenies (NILs) qEMF3. Evaluation 88 BC3F2 identified 19 under homozygous conditions. NILs 51 summer 2019 exhibited (7.30 a.m.) onset anthesis 1½ completed peak well around (9.30 day recorded spikelet (7.8–9.0%) their recurrent parent (19.2%). current study clearly efficacy mitigation losses high-temperature conditions farmer preferred variety.

Is early morning flowering an effective trait to minimize heat stress damage during flowering in rice?

Higher spikelet sterility due to heat stress exposure during flowering in rice is becoming a major threat for sustaining productivity in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Therefore, exploiting and incorporating early morning flowering (EMF) trait into ongoing breeding pipelines could be an effective strategy to minimize the damage. In this study, we have focused on quantifying the time of day ...

qEMF3, a novel QTL for the early-morning flowering trait from wild rice, Oryza officinalis, to mitigate heat stress damage at flowering in rice, O. sativa

A decline in rice (Oryza sativa L.) production caused by heat stress is one of the biggest concerns resulting from future climate change. Rice spikelets are most susceptible to heat stress at flowering. The early-morning flowering (EMF) trait mitigates heat-induced spikelet sterility at the flowering stage by escaping heat stress during the daytime. We attempted to develop near-isogenic lines (...

Heat-induced phytohormone changes are associated with disrupted early reproductive development and reduced yield in rice

Heat stress causes morphological and physiological changes and reduces crop yield in rice (Oryza sativa). To investigate changes in phytohormones and their relationships with yield and other attributes under heat stress, four rice varieties (Nagina22, Huanghuazhan, Liangyoupeijiu, and Shanyou 63) were grown in pots and subjected to three high temperature treatments plus control in temperature-c...

Assessment of Yield Loss in Rice due to Yellow Stem Borer, Scirpophaga incertulas, Using Simulation Models

The yield loss simulation (YLS) and the MACROS LIQ.CSM models were used to simulate the effect of stem borer damage at a detillering rate of 5, 15, 30, 60% at vegetative, panicle initiation and grain filing stages, on yield of rice cultivar?s Ratna. This stem borer damage during vegetative and panicle initiation stages was not simulated appropriately by both the models. Relatively MACROS simul...

RICE CULTURE The Effect of Rotation, Tillage, Fertility, and Variety on Rice Grain Yield

Average grain yield for the full-season varieties, over all treatment combinations, was 165 bu/acre. This average was impacted primarily by variety differences with ‘Wells’ averaging 180 bu/acre and ‘Cybonnet’ averaging 152 bu/acre. There were no significant differences between rotation, tillage, or fertility main-effect treatments. Summaries of grain yields for the main effect of tillage indic...
